The year 2020 has been a roller coaster ride for the inhabitants residing on the planet earth. We, The Zaal, have therefore gathered some key highlights to let its readers have a glance on this past year.

1. The Dreadful Australian Bushfires

The Australian bushfires have been one of the worst displays of climate change in the year 2020. With the raging bushfires spread across the continent capturing large areas of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. The damage done due to it is unprecedented. The land of nearly 15 million acres has been burnt with approximately 1400 homes destroyed. In addition to this, a devastating number of three billion animals were killed or displaced due to these bushfires.

2. The Royals’ Exit from the Royal Family

 A surprising yet an appreciable move by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle came into place when they decided to officially announce their exit from the Royal Family. With this move, they clarified leaving their senior roles and giving up their public funding for their offices.

3. Asian Dominance in the Oscars

The year 2020 has been quite beneficiary for the Asian film industry when the  film Parasite, a movie directed by Bong Joon Ho, took the leap of faith and fought its way out to win four Academy Awards in the annual Oscars Award Ceremony. 4. The US-Iran War Rumors

The year 2020 also saw quite a stir upped drama when in January two elite military commanders of Iran i.e. Qasim Solemani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis were assassinated by a US drone strike. In retaliation, a counter attack on the US military base in Iraq came into effect not much later than the latter event. These events made an obvious indication to the beginning of the much awaited war between Iran and the US however no such thing surprisingly happened.

5. The Departure of Renowned Celebrities to the Next World

With other sad happenings throughout the year, a number of prominent celebrities bid farewell to this world, to carry out the journey to the Next World. Sean Connery, the actor best known for playing James Bond died aged 90. The renowned marvel hero Black Panther; Chadwick Boseman lost his battle with the four year long colon cancer. The Bollywood industry also saw the sad demise of their famous celebrities Irrfan Khan and Sushant Singh at the age of 53 and 34 respectively.

6. The World of Sports Laments

Death is inevitable and indeed everyone has to meet their fate sooner or later. The year 2020 took away from us the two most all time famous personalities in the World of Sports. The NBA star, Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna died in a tragic helicopter crash. Later in the year, the Argentinian Football idol, Diego Maradona also bid farewell to this World leaving a huge number of his fans devastated.

7. The Declaration of COVID-19 as Global Pandemic

The COVID-19 has been the highlight of the year 2020. The declaration of it as a global pandemic came into effect in the month of March. The World saw itself imprisoned into their homes due to the virus that was merely considered a casual flu.

8. Black Lives Matter Revolution

The death of George Floyd led to the revolution of Black Lives Matter, when the entire World came together and stood out for the black community and protested for their fundamental and basic rights. A beautiful sense of unity prevailed where the pillars of discrimination on the basis of skin and color were resonated and yet need to be demolished.

9. Joe Biden Wins the 46th US Presidential Race

Donald Trump has been dethroned. Yes, you read that right. The world however, does not have many high hopes with the 46th US President, Joe Biden, but they in essence seem to be quite elated with the Trump administration leaving the Presidential Cabinet.

10. Bayern Munich Gets Hands on the Treble

The all-time-famous German Champions made history when they won the treble this year, becoming the only second team to reach this feat. The German based giants were seen win comprehensively the three major trophies i.e. The Champions League, the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

The year 2020 gave some hope to this world by the development of the most awaited vaccine against the COVID-19. There has been a race among major pharmaceutical giants to make their mark with Pfizer and BioNTech leading the way.
